Ben Spencer
Founder and Head Coach

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management and Athletic Coaching
Minors in Business Management, Nutrition and Fitness

Certifications: Crossfit Level 1, USA Swimming Level 2, Lifeguard/ CPR/ First Aid/ AED Certified

​​Ben has been doing CrossFit for 3 years. He has been to many different CrossFit gyms around the country as well as a bunch of experience with different types of exercise. He has experience in not only CrossFit but Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, and Bodybuilding. He is a former Division II collegiate swimmer, winning multiple events in his conference as well as breaking conference and team records. He also has experience playing other sports in high school including football and baseball. Ben is a big proponent of functional fitness as well as competitive fitness. He enjoys coaching and teaching athletes of all ages to not only improve overall health but also sport performance.

Gerald Jay Kanyok, Jr., Esq

Certifications: CF L1

Education: Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Administration in Finance
Juris Doctor

Affiliations: The Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Coaching Experience: Six Months of CrossFit coaching

​Gerald has been involved with CrossFit for two years but has been doing Olympic Weight training for over four years. Gerald and Ben have been close friends for nearly 22 years with ten of them being spent in the pool competitively swimming together. When not at the gym you’ll find Gerald is working on some type of car project or electronic gadget.

Nicole Hunt

Certifications: So many it’s hard to list.

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education

Coaching Experience: A multitude of years

​Nicole is a straightforward technically based coach. She will always stop and take the time to teach those around her proper form and technique. Nicole professionally competes on CrossFit competitions through the contiguous United States. Nicole is currently employed by the Tunkhannock Area School District. When Nicole is not at the gym she is at a different gym.

Jeff Appel ​

Education: Unknown

Coaching Experience: A few months coaching Crossfit

​Jeff came to us as a member. He was the only individual who was at the four o’clock class when we first opened. Jeff spent a lot of one on one time with the owner learning firsthand proper form and technique. Jeff watches athletes meticulously to be sure they are safely performing their lifts. If you don't find him at the gym, you'll find him on a roof.

Rena Heim​

​Certifications: CF L1

Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering

Coaching experience: Four year high school water polo coach; three years of CrossFit coaching.

​Rena has been doing CrossFit for 8 years and has trained with Olympic Weightlifting and bodybuilding programs for over half her life. Rena is a former D1 water polo goalie, breaking multiple school records for he lady Bison’s of Bucknell. She also swam in high school and threw discus and shot put in high school. Rena loves the competitive camaraderie that comes with the sport of CrossFit and has a special spot in her heart for teaching new members. When not in the gym you can find her on a pipeline rightof-way looking for the nearest gym.​

Kent Muench

Certification:  CF L1

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Masters Degree in Library Science

Coaching Experience: Ten years coaching, high school and junior high wrestling

Kent was a teacher for over 15 years and a wrestling coach for about ten.  During his time as a coach he would encourage his athletes to weight train and coach them on their technique.  He was an all state wrestler himself and was recruited to continue his career at a division 1 school.  He has been doing CrossFit for almost two years and has grown to love the sport. His daughter Charlie has also grown to love the sport.  She got her start with Spencer Fitness Kids CrossFit classes and now enjoys going to the regular classes and competing in CrossFit competitions herself.  When not at the gym Kent enjoys watching his kids compete in their respective sports.
